For higher capacity, heavier duty and longer span, overhead traveling cranes, bridge girders are constructed of welded box type or lattice type. This is required to maintain adequate lateral stiffness and to ensure strength suitable for higher duty cycle, by keeping deflection & vibration of the bridge structure, within allowable limit. Of course the net weight of the crane as a whole is not also increased unduly. All welded plate box girders render a pleasing & streamlined look to the crane and make cleaning, painting and maintenance easier.

Electrically operated long travel mechanism is situated either in single unit at center of the span or in double units at both ends of the span of course depending on the length of span.

Control is normally from a cabin on bridge but on requirement, floor control can also be provided Crab unit runs over the rail on bridge girders with barrel type Hoist drum for single Main hoist, but an auxiliary hoist of lesser capacity would also be provided on special requirement for quicker Hoist operation with less load. Our standard cranes are normally made for single speed. arrangement but on customer’s request two speed cranes can also be supplied.

Generally these are made to order, quicker delivery is also possible when requirement of customer falls within or can be adjusted in line with our standard production.

For feeding preparation shop especially from open store yard, this type of semi-goliath cranes are used for easier material transfer. In this type no extra bay is to be made. One gantry rail is situated at ground level and another over gantry girder placed at outer side of the bay, on which the crane will run. Full portal gantry cranes (Goliath type) are used in open yard with both the rail tracks set at ground level. In some installations it may be necessary or advantageous to have two rail tracks at different levels, and in this case semi-goliath cranes could also be installed. These cranes are with normal open barrel type crab unit, these cranes can be controlled either from the floor or from the cabin. All motions are power operated. Sometimes for lower capacity crane long travel can be made suitable for manual operation. This type of crane can also be made with box type plate girders for robustness and a stream-line view.

These type of cranes with smaller capacity and span sometimes can also constructed with single girder bridge with power operated electric hoist running along the lower flange of the girder. This type is selected when higher initial cost to procure above crab is to be curtailed by some reason.
